About Me
Hi, I'm Brian A. Goodman, the owner/inspector of AccuSpec LLC. I'm a life-long resident of Columbus, MS and at least the 5th generation on our land (my kids are the 6th). I'm here to stay. I'm married to Janet (14 years +), who works a job by day and keeps the books by night. My step-daughter Nicole manages the local "Walls" discount store, and my son Jake just finished the 4th grade at New Hope School. I started this business in mid-2002 after the state of Mississippi brought in home inspector licensing and ran all of the fly-by-night guys out of business. In late 2003 I also obtained a home inspection license in Alabama. I still maintain my license in both states.
I am a licensed, bonded, and insured home inspector. With a 20 year background covering various aspects of electrical, carpentry, and residential appraisal, I am uniquely qualified for the unusual position which inspectors occupy in real estate. I've been doing this longer than any other home inspector working in my area.
I recieved my initial home inspection training from Inspection Training Associates (Florida branch), a world-class organization. My two instructors were both past presidents of ASHI; Mark Cramer and Steven Gladstone.
I've taken other courses along the way too, but I don't wait around for continuing education requirements. I spend time on various home inspection websites almost every night, learning from some of the best (and most experienced) home inspectors in the country. Learning should be constant, not occasional.
I was the only home inspector in Mississippi who was nationally certified in radon measurement and analysis, but I didn't renew my certification in 2005 for business reasons. I was previously certified by the National Enviromental Health Association (NEHA) under their National Radon Proficiency Program, one of only two EPA recognized radon proficiency programs, and I still have the knowledge gained in that process.
I have also been nationally certified in carbon monoxide testing by the National Comfort Institute, but I no longer maintain that either.
I'm a member of the National Trust for Historic Preservation and have been fortunate enough to inspect such properties as "Hickory Sticks" (in Columbus, over 180 years old) which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. I've probably inspected more historic properties than anyone else in the area.
I also joined the International Code Council, and am working towards a designation with them.
